When setting up your online store, you had a long hesitation on the choice of software to use. Indeed, today’s open-source solutions dedicated to creating many merchant sites. To try to see more clearly between dozens of e-commerce solutions exist, we will focus on the two market leaders: Magento and PrestaShop. True reference in the field, these two programs offer features that are their own, impacting directly or indirectly on your SEO.
We’ll show you the advantages and disadvantages of Magento and PrestaShop:
Both created in 2008, Magento and PrestaShop are first developed in their countries of origin (the United States for Magento, PrestaShop for France). The first program is geared more professional because of the complexity and technicality of the product. The second one aims a wider audience (SMEs) through a simplified and intuitive use. Let’s look on the points that differentiate them.
Design / Functionality:
A reasonable doubt, the open-source solution for Magento is the most complete in this area. In fact, the U.S. is ahead of the French on many points. Magento offers a multitude of function with real freedom of adjustment. It is therefore possible managing Magento so advanced setting products (e.g. comparison option product, shipping, etc …) or to edit / manage multiple stores from the same interface. These features are not offer (yet) by PrestaShop.
From a design point of view, the two programs are the same. Certainly with Magento you have a high degree of customization for your shop. But unfortunately, it requires extensive knowledge of the software. This is why PrestaShop appears as a serious competitor with free themes and design that make a site quickly very well done.
Resource Utilization and Server:
Regarding the use of Magento, it is much more complex than PrestaShop. Indeed, reserved for experts and software professionals, Magento will push more than one, the complexity and expertise required to handle properly. In contrast, PrestaShop offers an interface more intuitive to use and that will delight the less experienced web-masters as you are (!)
About the accommodation of these programs, it is logical that only PrestaShop requires hosting. Indeed, few resource-intensive because of the limited number of application, PrestaShop is lighter than Magento. Instead, to meet the heavy resource software, Magento will necessarily having to lease a dedicated server.
